"Many Photos" - Driver high on cocaine and cannabis waves at police after hitting ambulance on 999 call

This is the moment a smiling drug driver waved at police seconds after hitting an ambulance.

Adam Vaughan, 32, had taken cocaine and smoked cannabis before leading officers on a chase down a one-way street in Christchurch, Dorset.

Police initially perused his blue VW Golf after he refused to pull over when he was clocked by officers traveling at 53mph in a 30mph zone.

Also uninsured, Vaughan desperately attempted to get away but was halted when he smashed into an ambulance, on an emergency 999 call.

He was arrested at the scene, where he failed a roadside drug wipe, testing positive for cannabis and cocaine.

The incident took place on February 20 and Vaughan has now been jailed at court.

He was handed a 14-month prison term and banned from driving for four years during a sentencing hearing at Bournemouth Crown Court.

Police have now released footage of him taken in the immediate aftermath of the scene where he is seen laughing and waving at officers.

Inspector Joe Pardey, of Dorset Police's the traffic unit, said: 'Adam Vaughan has continued to flout the law and drive uninsured and without a licence.

'He put so many road users at risk that day by drug driving and travelling at excess speeds.

'His poor driving resulted in a collision and it is nothing but sheer luck that no one was more seriously injured.

'I hope the sentence handed out by the court will reiterate our commitment to taking dangerous and uninsured motorists off the road.'

Vaughan suffered minor injuries at the scene and two paramedics from the ambulance were taken to Poole Hospital as a precaution.

No patients were on board at the time.
