"Many Photos" - Boris Johnson sets up war cabinet to deliver Brexit 'by any means necessary'

Newly appointed PM Boris Johnson has set up a 'war cabinet' to push through Brexit 'by any means necessary' by October 31.

In a move similar to Tony Blair's 'sofa government', Mr Johnson will make all key decisions over Brexit with a team of just six senior ministers - all of whom are Brexiteers.

Michael Gove, Chancellor Sajid Javid, Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab, Brexit Secretary Steve Barclay, and the Attorney General Geoffrey Cox will be the core group of advisors to plot the UK's exit from the EU.

Michael Gove, who has been tasked by new British Prime Minister Boris Johnson to boost preparations for a no-deal Brexit, has said that the government is 'working on the assumption' that the European Union will not strike a new agreement

Cabinet attendee and Mr Johnson's former rival Michael Gove has also warned that there is 'now a very real prospect' of no deal.

Michael Gove, who has been tasked by new British Prime Minister Boris Johnson to boost preparations for a no-deal Brexit, has said that the government is 'working on the assumption' that the European Union will not strike a new agreement.

'We will exit the EU on October 31. No ifs. No buts. No more delay. Brexit is happening,' said Gove in the Sunday Times

It is reported that Mr Johnson has ordered Gove to chair meetings of civil servants and political advisers seven days a week to prepare for exiting.

2016 referendum mastermind Dominic Cummings, who was controversially appoint as Mr Johnson’s special adviser, said the Prime Minister had told him to deliver Brexit 'by any means necessary'.

The use of the phrase has increased speculation that Mr Johnson could suspend parliament to push a no deal past MPs attempting to block it.

Writing in The Sunday Times, Gove declares that 'the government will work flat-out' to prepare for no deal.

The former Environment Secretary added that ministers do not believe the EU will back down from their position that the withdrawal agreement will not be reopened.

Mr Johnson's boiled-down Brexit-planning group stands in stark contrast to predecessor May's.

For much of her three years it is claimed that the Brexit Department, from which both David Davis and Dominic Raab resigned, was sidelined from negotiations.

And while several departments attempted to make no-deal preparations, Philip Hammond's Treasury was resistant to helping the cause.

New Chancellor Sajid Javid has also said that 'all necessary funding' arrangements will be made available for a no-deal, with plans for 500 extra Border Force officers and possibly new port infrastructure.

Today, The Mail on Sunday has revealed Boris Johnson's new Downing Street guru Dominic Cummings plans to turn the Conservative Party conference at the end of September into a Brexit rally.

The annual gathering of the Tory faithful, to be held in Manchester this year, finishes just 29 days before the Government's planned EU departure on October 31.

This year, the entire four-day meeting will be used to 'hammer home the Government's message that we are leaving on October 31 with or without a deal'.

Mr Cummings told Whitehall advisers and spin doctors on Friday that they were not part of 'a usual Government' but rather one facing 'a constitutional crisis'.

He said: 'You should be doing the bare minimum with regards to conference, as minimal an amount as possible. The usual big speeches by loads of different Ministers with lots of policy announcements to chase headlines are just not going to happen.

'What you have to realise is that the conference is going to be just days away from Brexit, and that is all it will be about.'
