"Many Photos" - When is the next Supermoon in the UK? 2019 dates and how to watch

HAVE you ever seen a Supermoon? If not then don’t miss out on the next one that will be here THIS MONTH as it is one of the most spectacular sights you could ever hope to see.

Here’s the lowdown on 2019’s spectacular Supermoons.

When is the next Supermoon 2019?

In 2019 we will be treated to THREE Supermoons in succession.

The dates to look out for are February 19 and March 21.

The most recent Supermoon was on January 21 and it was a special occasion due to it being a Super Blood Wolf Moon – with a lunar eclipse.

The next Supermoon will be on February 19 and it is known as a Snow Moon.

How can I best view a Supermoon?

For the best view of the Supermoon, make sure that you’re as far away from light pollution as possible.

Nasa often runs live-streams of the lunar event so keep an eye out for them too.

And keep your fingers crossed that the clouds will stay away.

What is a Supermoon?

It wasn’t until 1979 that Richard Nolle first defined the Supermoon, which is now a widely-used term.

The astrologer explained that the phenomenon is “a new or full moon which occurs with the moon at or near (within 90 per cent of) its closest approach to Earth in a given orbit.”

Based on Nolle’s theory, the moon would have to be 226,000 miles away from the Earth to be considered “super”.

Because of its relatively close proximity to the Earth, the celestial body’s surface appears a lot bigger when a Supermoon occurs.
