When is the Brexit ‘Put it to the People’ march?

The march will take place on Saturday 23 March.

That date is just six days before the UK is supposed to leave the European Union.

For those campaigning for a public say in the deal, it may be one of the last days available for demonstrations before the UK leaves.

It is also the day after European Council meetings on 21 and 22 March, which some believe Theresa May is waiting for before offering a meaningful vote on any renegotiated deal to parliament.

Where will the march take place?

The Put it to the People march will be held on the streets of London.

It is set to begin at 12pm or “high noon” on Park Lane before setting off towards Parliament Square.

Although full details of the route are yet to be released, the march will end in the square for a “mass rally and keynote speeches”.

It is being organised by the People’s Vote campaign and is hoped to attract large numbers like the protest on October 20 last year, which attracted hundreds of thousands of people to the capital.

What does the march hope to achieve?

The main demand of the demonstration is to give the public a final vote on any proposed Brexit deal.

Former Green Party leader Caroline Lucas said: “Instead of letting Theresa May kick the can down the road until the March 29 deadline, hundreds of thousands of people will march on parliament offering a solution to a crisis that threatens our rights, our living standards and our environment.”

The campaign website says it wants to “make the calls for a People’s Vote too loud to ignore.”

Who will be attending the march?

Several MPs have publicly announced their support for the Put it to the People march.

These include Caroline Lucas, Sir Vince Cable, Anna Soubry, and David Lammy.

In December, a petition with over a million signatures was handed in to Downing Street demanding a new Brexit referendum.

As the deadline for leaving the EU nears, the Put it to the People march may attract even larger numbers than previous demonstrations.
