WELLWISHERS have raised £11,000 so the family of missing student Libby Squire can stay close to the police search, which is now entering its 18th day.
Two fund-raising pages opened to support them have raised £11,000 in eight days with strangers touched by their plight donating money.
A JustGiving page set up by Libby’s fellow Hull University student Craig Hopkins has raised nearly £6,500 from over 500 supporters.
He said: “They must be going through such a terrible ordeal and this is such a challenging time, so it would be great if we could ease at least one pressure on the family.
“Staying in Hull will have financial implications for them, with hotels and food, so it would be great if we could come together as a community and help them.”
And a friend in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, Libby’s home town set up a page on GoFundMe to help support the family.
This is such a challenging time, so it would be great if we could ease at least one pressure on the family.

The page reads: “This is a fundraiser for the family to help them in this hard time. For them to use on whatever they need whether hotels, bills or any support they need. The community is here for you.”
So far, over 270 people have helped to raise over £4,500.
One donator summed up the feeling of concern for the family, posting: “Deepest sympathies to the family and friends of missing Libby at this unfathomably difficult time. All of us in Hull are with you. Be strong.”
Another added: “I can’t imagine how you must be feeling. I hope these donations will help to alleviate some of your stress at this difficult time. Praying she is found soon.”
A Humberside Police search is now into its third week, with officers admitting for the first time last week that she “may have come to some harm”.
