Rapper 21 Savage's arrest in the US after it emerged he is actually a British born immigrant to the country sparked a wave of shock across the country - and then - a rush of memes.
Americans were stunned when they learned the Atlanta star often seen with the biggest names in music had been held by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers.
Police claim the musician born Sheyaa bin Abraham on October 22, 1992 at Newham Hospital, in east London, has been in the country 'unlawfully' since 2006.
After the shock - came the merciless mocking.
One meme used an image of a member of the Queen's Guard to mock the rapper
Another Twitter user made references to British people drinking tea with guns covered in patterns
Some insinuated the rapper had not 'been through' difficulties although fans jumped to his defense and listed the struggles he has overcome
Another meme favorite: Viral Fyre Festival employee Andy King featured in one post that referenced his story about agreeing to 'suck a d**k' to help the team out
Background: Many people chose to make fun of the fact that 21 Savage - who has been known on the US rap scene for years - is actually British
While most joked about him attending Hogwarts, drinking tea and knowing the Queen - others jumped to his defense and said it was not funny to laugh about it.
Singer Demi Lovato was caught in the angry crossfire when she posted a meme of a hand writing with a quill and ink on old fashioned parchment paper with the caption 'How 21 Savage writes his verses'.
A Twitter mob attacked her and referenced her drug overdose, until she deleted her accounts.
Others continued to mock the man regardless - while his relatives in the UK refused to talk about what had happened.
In 13 years since moving to the States aged 12, he has made $8million from his hit rap songs, toured the world and was even prosecuted for a drugs offence in 2014 before his immigration status came to light.
An ICE spokesman said: 'His whole public persona is false. He actually came to the US from the UK as a teen and overstayed his visa'.
His fans are in shock because they believed that he was born and raised in Atlanta - because he has a thick Georgian accent and has never denied claims he was born and bred in the city, where he has three young children.
His parents Heather Joseph and Kevin Emmons are also British and split before he moved with his mother. He has twin sisters in the UK.
The star was last night - he is being held in a federal immigration custody in Georgia and could be deported back to the UK.
One person joked he would be renamed Sir Savage the 21st, while others came up with even more ridiculous 'British' names for him
Singer Demi Lovato posted this meme on her Instagram account and joked she was enjoying the memes before she was hit with an angry backlash
History lesson: One person found a perfect use of 21 Savage's lyrics as a description of the British Army
Coincidence? One person pointed out that the Queen is the exact same height as a woman referenced in one of 21 Savage's songs
Scene stealer: The news of 21 Savage's arrest broke at around the same time as this year's Super Bowl, with one person joking that the rapper's situation was far more interesting
Running theme: 21 Savage's choice of vehicle was also proved to be a particularly popular subject when it came to the memes that were being shared
Other memes used British stereotypes - such as tea and baked beans on toast to mock the rapper and his predicament
Really? Some people simply refused to believe that someone has become such a well-known figure in US popular culture could possibly be British
Others joked he went to Hogwarts as they super-imposed his face on top of Harry Potter pictures, while using his lyrics to hammer their point home
Play on words: Many people used lyrics from 21 Savage's hit rap songs in order to illustrate their memes
Some joked rap star 6ix9ine reported the star to avoid long jail time after his own arrest and detention for alleged crimes in the US
