It’s the most infamous moment in the Netflix documentary Fyre. If you’ve seen it, you already know what I’m talking about. If you haven’t though, let me give you a brief recap of a man named Andy King:
He tried to help get the festival in order, and when tons of bottled water was held up at customs, he was instructed to head over and “suck d*ck” if necessary to get what they needed.
He didn’t end up having to go through with it though, but the story became one of the most talked about parts of the entire Fyre Festival saga (and considering all that entails, that’s pretty goddamn impressive). Just as a refresher:
Via Twitter
Netflix even sat down to shoot a promo with him afterward (which also helped promote GoFundMe campaigns to help in the aftermath of the Fyre Festival):
Now, that’s where I thought Andy King’s story was going to end. That Tweet is from days ago, so what else could have possibly happened between now and then that I’m writing more about this (because even though I’m fascinated by the Fyre Festival disaster, I kind of don’t want to hear about it after this)?
Well, apparently Vanity Fair interviewed Andy King about his time in the Fyre Festival, and King revealed some pretty startling information: We probably haven’t seen the last of him, especially if television networks have anything to say about it.
We’re going to break up this quote a bit, but here’s the first part:
“I had three TV show offers this week, from notable networks,” King said, before providing a few clues about his vision for a series. “You’re too young to remember this, but in the old world of TV it was The Carol Burnett Show and these fun, light-hearted shows that weren’t all crime-related,” King explained, hopeful that networks are opening back up to this kind of upbeat fare.
So, what the hell would this proposed show be about?
“You see the attractiveness of HGTV today. People love Flip or Flop or Fixer Upper. Let’s just say it’s going to be a show about hosting crazy events—what it takes to make them happen. There will be cliff-hangers, and you’ll get to follow me around and see how I pull them off.”
If when I was growing up MTV could create a show like Next, surely we can get Andy King some TV project off the ground. Honestly, it’s not the worst pitch in the world, and I’d probably never watch it, but fuck it. Just go for it. Why not.
