ASHLEY COLE named his star-studded Arsenal and Chelsea combined XI last night – and somehow managed to leave out Dennis Bergkamp.
The ex-Premier League star, 38, made some controversial choices for his team during his appearance on Monday Night Football – where Liverpool slipped to a 1-1 draw at West Ham.
Cole – now on the books of Championship promotion hopefuls Derby – naturally picked boss Frank Lampard in the centre of the park.
But it was his striking ranks causing a stir – with Didier Drogba preferred to Holland legend Bergkamp.
The 107-cap former England defender was challenged with making a combined XI from Arsenal‘s 2003-04 “Invincibles” and the Chelsea crop of 2009-10.
While the likes of Florent Malouda and Branislav Ivanovic made the team, Freddie Ljunberg and Bergkamp did not.
Cole claimed Drogba got the nod because the Ivorian legend helped him “get a Champions League medal around his neck”.
But fellow pundit Jamie Carragher was visibly – and audibly – stunned at the decision, saying: “No.
“If I’d played ten minutes with Bergkamp I’d have had him in.”
It’s fair to say fans on social media had a similar reaction to the choice too.
One Twitter user wrote: “Ashley Cole has lost it putting Drogba before Bergkamp.”

A third added: “Malouda gets in and Bergkamp doesn’t? Lost the plot.”
