Andreas Christensen says Chelsea blocked his exit in the January transfer window and still believe he has a role to play this season.
Barcelona, Juventus, Borussia Dortmund and former club Borussia Monchengladbach were all linked with moves for the Denmark international.
Maurizio Sarri insisted he wanted to keep the 22-year-old for the rest of the campaign despite giving the centre-back just two Premier League run-outs.
And Christensen has revealed the club wanted him to remain at Stamford Bridge.
He told bold.dk: “There was a lot of talk, but it was made clear to me that the club still saw me as someone who will play.
“Of course it is really nice to hear, and I just have to keep performing. I think I’ve done well the last few times I’ve got the chance, and I just have to hope that I am selected more often.”
Christensen added: “Of course there were a lot of considerations, but as they made it clear to me that they wanted me to stay, it was really not that hard for me to accept it.
“I’ve been to the club for many years and I still love being there.
“It is solely because of the lack of playing time that I considered leaving.
“But I am looking forward and am very clear with the situation.”
Sarri was reportedly fuming with Christensen last month after he left the bench for a toilet break during the loss to Arsenal and never returned.
Nevertheless, the youth product has been a near ever-present for Chelsea during their domestic and continental cup campaigns, playing every minute in the Europa League and FA Cup this term.
After starting the West Londoners’ first four Carabao Cup games, he was left out of the squad for the semi-final second leg against Tottenham.
It remains to be seen whether he is reinstated for the final against Manchester City this weekend at Wembley.
Antonio Rudiger and David Luiz are firmly ahead in the pecking order.
But Christensen insists he will give his best when called upon.
He admitted: “It is hard. Right now there are two clear first choice defenders, and then there is me who comes right after.
“I just have to show I am ready and grab the chance when I get it.”
