New photo Sarri ramps up pressure on Pochettino by saying Spurs boss needs to win a trophy

MAURIZIO SAARI has cranked up the mind games ahead of Chelsea’s Carabao Cup game with Tottenham suggesting Mauricio Pochettino need to win silverware.

Pochettino has been hailed as the man to take Spurs forward in recent years with top-four finishes in the last three seasons.

However, the North London outfit last lifted a trophy in 2008 when they beat Chelsea in the League Cup under Juande Ramos.

Competing with Europe’s elite has been top of Poch’s agenda ahead of domestic cup glory, but before they clash in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg tonight, Sarri reckons the Argentine coach is under pressure to deliver trophies.

He said: “He is a very good coach, one of the best at the moment. I agree that he has to win a trophy. I hope not this (one).

“For me, it’s the same. Of course Pochettino is in Tottenham from four years ago.

“I am here from six months. Here in the first season, it is really very difficult for everybody.”

Sarri has only gone up against Pochettino once when the Blues were taken apart at Wembley 3-1 last November.

The Italian admits he was not aware of the intense rivalry between the London sides and vows not to make the same mistake again.

He added: “I saw my players in the dressing room after the match and they were destroyed, so I realised the match against Tottenham was important.

“After the match in the Premier League, I realised the real situation. I didn’t know exactly the situation but now I think I know, so I will be ready. I hope the same for my players.”
