REBEL MPs are poised to seize control of Brexit if Theresa May’s plans hit the buffers on Tuesday, it’s been reported.

It has emerged if the PM loses tomorrow’s key vote plans will be passed to a liaison committee which is dominated by Remainers.

The panel of senior backbenchers would then be responsible for drawing up any new Brexit legislation.

It could see MPs try and extend – or maybe revoke – Article 50, meaning Britain would not leave the EU on March 29 as planned.

A Cabinet minister told the Daily Mail the move was a “copper-bottomed, bullet-proof plan to sink Brexit which relies on the fact that Government has no majority and that the Speaker will bend the rules.”

A draft Bill, which sources say has been drawn up by former ministers Nick Boles and Sir Oliver Letwin, is to be published this evening.

It would allow MPs to seize control of what laws can be put before the Commons if Mrs May is defeated tomorrow.

Mrs May would then be given just 21 days to come up with an alternative plan and if none is found the liaison committee would step up, it’s reported.

The panel comprises the chairmen of the 36 select committees, of whom 27 backed Remain and just nine Leave.

It has also been claimed EU leaders are preparing to delay Brexit until July or possibly longer if Parliament cannot agree a deal.

Brussels is also reportedly expecting the British government to ask for an extension to Article 50, allowing the PM more time to get a deal through Parliament.

Brexit could be postponed even longer if a general election or second referendum takes place, the Guardian reported.

An EU source told the newspaper: ‘Should the prime minister survive and inform us that she needs more time to win round parliament to a deal, a technical extension up to July will be offered.’

The news comes as it was revealed Brexit heavyweights have written to all Tory MPs calling on them to vote down Theresa May’s deal tomorrow – as she declares there are 24 hours to save Brexit.

The dozen, including Boris Johnson, demand in their Plan B letter that the PM issue the EU with a final ultimatum for a better deal when hers is voted down on Tuesday – and then leave without one.

The senior figures call on the PM to ask EU leaders to free Britain from a never-ending Irish backstop.

If they refuse, Mrs May must “have the confidence to leave on WTO terms” on March 29 as the only way to stay true to her election manifesto last year.

Their explosive intervention comes as the PM also today declares there are just 24 hours left to save Brexit ahead of the landmark Commons showdown over it tomorrow night.
