ALVARO MORATA’S Chelsea exit is reportedly “in the balance” with Atletico Madrid only willing to sign him on loan.

The Daily Mail claims the clubs are in talks over a deal for Morata to return to his boyhood side.

Chelsea are looking to land AC Milan loanee Gonzalo Higuain as a replacement – even though a deal looks extremely complicated.

And they need to offload Morata to free up room in Maurizio Sarri’s squad, with the 26-year-old scoring just 24 times since his £60million switch from Real Madrid in 2017.

Atletico approached Chelsea in the wake of Diego Costa’s foot injury, which saw him go under the knife last month.

But it has now emerged that Diego Simeone is not interested in signing Morata permanently.

And Atletico are only willing to take the misfiring flop off Chelsea’s hands if they can land him on a loan deal until the end of the season.

Only then are the La Liga side willing to talk numbers over a full-time switch.

But Chelsea are not happy with that arrangement and want Atletico to commit financially before giving Morata the green light to leave Stamford Bridge.

However, Simeone must first offload Gelson Martins and Nikola Kalinic just to cover Morata’s loan fees, making a permanent switch seem unlikely.
