New photo Inferno engulfs The Ivy in Manchester city centre

A huge blaze has broken out in the rooftop garden of Manchester's brand new city centre restaurant The Ivy - which had only been open for six weeks.  

Witnesses shared dramatic footage of the fire raging across the fourth floor of the luxury fine dining eatery. 

Fire fighters are currently on the scene in Hardman Square in Spinningfields as dozens of onlookers stare up at the flames from the street below, while countless more look on from nearby office windows.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue attended the scene in Hardman Square 

Paul Berry, who works at In Touch at Hardman Square told Manchester Evening News the outside balcony area is 'absolutely ablaze', while fearing the blaze may spread.

He added: 'It looked like it was dropping down to lower floors. It grabbed hold very quickly from nothing, within ten minutes it was ablaze.’ 

A statement from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: '[We] were called just before 5pm today to a restaurant and four pumps and an aerial appliance are currently in attendance. The fire is located on the top storey of the restaurant.

'The incident is ongoing.' 

Road closures have been put in place in Spinningfields.  

The restaurant had reportedly only opened just under six weeks ago
