Even comedic greats have a funny bone and can’t help but laugh their asses off from time to time. Sure Jimmy Fallon is notorious for being the all-time worst offender of breaking character to cackle, but there have been many outbursts over the years. And while some chuckles might actually deter from the sketches, in most cases, the greatest part of the skit was the honest loss of composure.
Take for instance, Debbie Downer, played by Rachel Dratch, who manages to turn even a jolly trip to Disneyland into a real buzzkill. That is if Fallon hadn’t lost his shit.
Chris Parnell and Molly Shannon visiting Will Ferrell in “Dr. Beaman’s Office” to get their baby’s test results, took a giggle-y turn after Dr. Poop makes an appearance and the plotline & laughter escalated from there.
Kenan Thompson in his “Scared Straight” knockoff, brought Bill Hader, Andy Samberg, Jason Sudeikis, and Bobby Moynihan to a grinding halt as they watched him go nuts on them.
Bill Hader, another repeat offender on this list, can’t even look at Kenan.
In “New Girlfriend,” Fred Armisen’s antics tests Aidy Bryant and Vanessa Bayer’s nerve as Jason Sudekis’ new girlfriend, Regine.
Laughter is contagious and this is never more evident than in a skit working in a high class EuroTrash store “’Jeffrey’s,” with Pierce Brosnan, Will Ferrell, and of course, Jimmy Fallon. From the moment Ferell comes in to the store, on this motorized wheelchair, with a little cell phone, the guys begin to break down. It happened again later in a similar situation with Sean Hayes.
Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph often cracked themselves up, but never more so than playing “Super Showcase Spokesmodels” Shonda and Vonda lose it tyring to explain the absurd prizes, such as a lifetime supply of chicken.
Kate McKinnon’s alien abductee “Closer Encounter” tale took out Aidy Bryant, Bobby Moynihan, Cecily Strong, and most of all Ryan Gosling. Some people steady their laughter and reengage with the skit, Ryan essentially laugh-reads his way through half a skit. It’s magical.
McKinnon did it again in “Another Close Encounter,” as she got really up the barrel of Gosling to discuss the probing situation.
Speaking of Ryan Gosling, he also couldn’t keep it together when he fell in love with Aidy Bryant’s Henrietta the Chicken in “Henrietta & The Fugitive.”
Nobody could make audiences laugh like Chris Farley. And his original motivational speech sketch as Matt Foley had David Spade and Christina Applegate covering their faces as the hilarious hurricane ensued.
Cecily Strong, normally solid when it comes to keeping her composure during sketches, lost it when Bill Hader’s Horace caused all sorts of chaos with his electric wheelchair in “Girlfriend’s Game Night.”
Larry David as an obnoxious designer of a terrible FBI training simulator, rocked a gaudy orange suit and asked that most burning of questions: “Can a bitch get a donut?” Larry turned red, and barely breathing laughed his way through most of the sketch.
Sometimes the strangest things get under our skin, and “Kevin Roberts” was it for Larry.
Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader interviewing Scarlett Johansson for “Hollywood Dish,” was amusing on its own, but nobody was prepared for Bill Hader’s insane reactions to Scarlette’s interview answers.
Candice Bergen cracks up during skit with Gilda Radner after botching one of her lines…
In the end both ladies couldn’t keep anything together.
In “Gus Chiggins, Old Prospector,” army troops get a briefing from a strange old prospector Will Ferrell, and most the cast was breaking down.
Jonah Hill and Leslie Jones can’t handle each other when he plays a six-year-old and his nanny in “Benihana.”
When Will Ferrell showed up to work to celebrate his Patriotism in “Short Shorts for the USA,” Rachel Dratch and Seth Meyers have to turn away to hide their faces while the ‘Mericana ensued.
Pete Davidson and Kenan Thompson attempt to conceal their cackles with their hands and a cookie as Leslie Jones comes out to breastfeed her adult son during “Football Party.”
Bill Hader, Kristen Wiig, and Fred Armisen break character very quickly during “The Californians: Stuart Has Cancer” sketch.
Hader is especially incapable of his uncontrollable laughter.
Bill Hader’s Stefon cracked himself up often times as the repeat character made his way onto the Weekend Update set. The absolute ridiculous dialogue that came out of Stefon’s mouth would’ve made it difficult to keep a straight face for anyone.
And who can forget Rachel Dratch and Will Ferrell as the most cringe-inducing couple in the world? The two lovers get overly romantic in a hot tub at the Welshly Arms Hotel and the whole gang, including Fallon and Drew Barrymore were in stitches by the end.
