CHELSEA are in talks with David Luiz over a new contract with the Brazilian’s current deal set to expire in the summer, according to the defender’s agent.
The 31-year-old is hopeful of extending his stay with the Blues, where he has been a key figure under Maurizio Sarri.
Luiz has already featured in more than double the amount of Premier League games this season as he had under Antonio Conte last campaign.
And the ex-Paris Saint-Germain centre-back is keen on continuing his love affair at Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea’s policy of only handing one-year deals to players over 30 proving to be the only sticking point.
Recent reports in Brazil stated that negotiations had hit a potential snag due to Luiz’s representative Kia Joorabchian laying out his own financial terms to Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia.
But Joorabchian rebuffed the claim, and said that he and the club are working together to keep Luiz at the West London side.
He told SunSport: “Contrary to some reports we are in a very amicable situation with Chelsea.
“We are trying to work out a deal for David Luiz because he wants to stay, the manager wants him to stay and so does the club.
“I’m sure something will be worked out.”
Luiz had a mixed game in the recent 2-1 win against Newcastle, where he laid on an exquisite assist for Pedro to open the scoring against the Magpies.

But he was at fault for Ciaran Clark’s equaliser as he was slack in marking the Irish international, before being beaten to the header.
Luiz has chipped in with two goals in 26 games in all competitions this season – compared to the 17 matches he played last term.
