"Many Photos" - Freed sex offenders on probation put in budget hotels because bail hostels are full, report claims

SEX offenders are being put in budget hotels on their release from jail because bail hostels are often full, a damning report reveals today.

Two were placed in rooms without the knowledge of staff and guests.

Watchdogs also found one sex beast was put in a homeless shelter. The survey by HM Inspectorate of Probation and HM Inspectorate of Prisons found people were being put at risk by the failings.

The report said: “We found it hard to see how such accommodation is defensible in terms of protecting the public.”

Inspectors examined the management of 120 freed sex offenders on probation.

They found no work was done to tackle the behaviour of four out of ten.

Less than two-thirds of the paedophiles, rapists and abusers had received a home visit by their probation officer.

And inspectors found that not enough was done to protect kids in one out of every three cases.

It was also uncovered one jailed sex attacker harassed his victim on an official prison phone.

The report, which made 15 recommendations, found probation officers were often overloaded with cases.

It follows the scandal of freed sex offender Leroy Campbell, 57, who raped and strangled Lisa Skidmore in 2016. He warned probation staff he might strike again and a subsequent report flagged up key failings in his supervision.

The Ministry of Justice said it was not standard practice to release sex offenders into hotels.
