PREPARE for take-off – British Airways wants to take on 2,000 cabin crew staff next year.
Successful candidates with no prior experience will train through the airline’s new 12-month cabin crew apprenticeships.
The scheme begins in March at BA’s Heathrow-based Global Learning Academy.
Trainees will gain qualifications in English, maths and digital skills, alongside training in customer service and aviation safety and security.
The scheme is open to applicants of all ages and backgrounds.
Chief learning officer Nigel Jeremy said: “We’re delighted to be offering the UK’s largest cabin crew apprenticeship scheme.

The new apprenticeships will run alongside existing schemes in customer service, engineering and head office roles.
Victoria Bromiley is training as a customer service apprentice but hopes to eventually take to the skies.
The 19-year-old from North Marston, Bucks, said: “My apprenticeship at British Airways has been the perfect way to begin my career in the aviation industry. The opportunities available are amazing.
“Like many others, I chose to become an apprentice because I wanted to gain a qualification while working a full-time job. My dream is to one day be a pilot.
“Because British Airways is such a massive organisation, the career options are wide-ranging.
“I’m really excited for the future. I would absolutely recommend an apprenticeship to anyone.”

Carving out his future
JOE BUCK is on track to be the sharpest staffer at Toby Carvery – currently finishing his THIRD apprenticeship with the chain in three years.
And his hard work has paid off after winning the Rising Star award at the National Apprenticeship Awards last week.
Joe, 20, has already completed hospitality services and team leader schemes and is now working on a supervisor course.
He said after winning the gong: “I am so proud.
“Throughout the three years I have had many challenges both in my business and in my personal life but have always given everything to improve myself and the business I manage.”
Joe is a duty manager at the Toby Carvery in Aintree, Liverpool, run by pub and restaurant chain Mitchells & Butlers.
The chain’s Lauren Carroll said: “Joe is truly a shining example.”

Workers flexed
Staff offered flexible working arrangements take less leave and work more effectively, with higher levels of productivity, new research shows.
The study from AAT found a quarter of flexi-employees work longer hours than when doing a nine-to-five, while 21 per cent were “much more productive”.
Olivia Hill, head of HR at the accountancy firm, said: “All many people need is a laptop and stable internet, that can be found in many places other than the office environment.”

Happier in charge
Seven in ten employees are in jobs they don’t want to do – while a third of full-time employees would like to start their own business.
But business owners are six times more likely to be in their dream job than employees – 74 per cent of entrepreneurs say they love their role, just 13 per cent of employees can say the same thing.
Paul Mizen, head of Recruit Venture which conducted the poll, said: “There is always another option and a different career path has no age limit, especially when looking at setting up your own firm.”
