Dalton was beaten and left homeless after spending all the money he had earned on his first talent show on his family.

In an exclusive chat with the Sun Online, Dalton who was crowned the show’s champion last night after wowing fans with his winner’s song, a cover of Frankie Goes To Hollywood’s Power Of Love, cleared up rumours that his family stole the money from him and revealed he actually spent it on them to help improve their lives after the hell they suffered.

The 24-year-old said: “I used it to help my family. It wasn’t stolen from me. They needed help.

It was one million Jamaican dollars, about £6,000. There was money, and now it’s gone. It’s okay. ”

He was determined to make something of himself after the abuse he suffered when he was younger.

He told The Mirror: “There’s a cut above my right eyebrow and cuts around my ears and head but I grew my hair to hide them.

“There are more on my chest, arm, shoulder, back, thighs, legs and feet.

“I was punched so hard by a guy dating my mum I crashed through a window.

“I was told that I should walk into the road and kill myself – I was told I was ugly and illegitimate.”

By 15, Dalton was homeless and he no longer has a relationship with his mum or dad – finding solace in singing, which ultimately paved his escape from poverty.

Speaking exclusively to The Sun Online, recalled how he was so poor growing up he rarely got birthday or Christmas presents.

He said: “It was poverty. My mum had seven of us. I grew up with two older sisters. Everybody else was spread out. It was impoverished. It was poverty.
