THE woman who claims she was raped by a ‘major Irish sports star’ was taken to hospital after police found her at home ‘battered and bruised’.
The victim, in her 20s, was reportedly attacked in the city centre between midnight and 2am Monday morning.
Cops launched an investigation and say the account of the woman, who says she was attacked and raped in a penthouse suite in Dublin city centre, is ‘credible’.
The Irish Daily Mail reports they visited her home early on Monday where they found her ‘visibly battered and distraught’.
The accused sportsman was out with pals, according to police, when he met the woman.
The paper reports the victim says she was ‘hit by the sports star during the attack’ and was left with bruising.
Police are said to have taken her bloodstained clothing and called an ambulance.
Cops are investigating the incident after the alleged victim reported it at a South Dublin police station but she is yet to make a formal statement.
They cannot move forward with the investigation until this statement is provided which they are ‘encouraging her to do when she feels able’.
But senior security sources told the paper: “It is not unusual for victims to need some time after a violent incident to gather their thoughts and emotions before they are in a place emotionally and physically to talk to gardaí and tell officers everything.
“In this case, based on the initial evidence so far, gardaí are keen for this woman to make a full statement.”

She was taken to the Sexual Assault Treatment unit at the Rotunda Hospital.
No arrests have been made and investigations are continuing.
A spokesman said: “Police at Pearse Street, Dublin 2 are investigating an alleged sexual assault on a female which occurred in Dublin 2 in the early hours of this morning, Monday December 10 2018.”
