A DAD and stepmum waterboarded their own daughter after tying her hands behind her back as a form of punishment, authorities in Utah have said.
Joseph Maeser Mitchell, 29 and his wife Ilaria Catherina Michell, 28, have both been arrested and charged with child abuse.
A police report seen by the Gephardt Daily said: “The nine-year-old disclosed that her father, Joseph Mitchell, and her stepmother, Ilaria Mitchell, have punished her three separate times by putting a towel over her face and pouring water on it.
“The girl went into detail saying that Joseph and Ilaria would take her to the bathroom and tie her hands behind her back.
“They would then hold her down in the bathtub and place a towel over her face and pour water on it.”
The child said this happened on at least three occasions.
It added that when she was subjected to the ordeals she could not breathe and it hurt her.
The girl also told the cops that her stepmum had also punched her on the nose, causing it to bleed.

Authorities added that the girl had been taken to hospital where she was treated for injuries to her wrists.
The injuries are reportedly consistent with her being tied down and having her hands bound.
Joseph Mitchell was also charged with unlawful possession of a financial card after he was found with a credit card in the name of his wife’s seven-year-old nephew.
