ABDOULAYE DOUCOURE denied Newcastle their first top flight win at Watford.
The midfielder rescued his team with a goal eight minutes from time and at the same time gave his chances of a move to Paris St. Germain next month a big boost.
Doucoure was brought off the bench by Watford boss Javier Gracia with them limping to defeat in their worst home performance of the season.
Gracia was hoping to rest the £50 million-rated Frenchman and skipper Troy Deeney a day off during the hectic Festive fixtures but was forced to abandon his plan nine minutes into the second half with his team losing.
Salomon Rondon’s clinical 29th minute header has given Newcastle the lead and Watford were struggling to mount any serious response.
Rondon himself was returning to the starting XI having been rested for the 4-0 Boxing Day thrashing by Liverpool.

And he responded in lethal combination with Matt Ritchie to put Newcastle in front as they dominated the first 45 minutes.
Rondon actually had the ball in the net three times in a first half but two were ruled offside by ref Roger East and his assistants – one marginally yet the other debatable.
There was no argument about the way he squeezed between Watford defenders Craig Cathcart and Adam Masina to nod home a superb cross from Ritchie which stunned the sluggish home side.
Watford missed chances in the first half when timely tackles by Toon defenders Paul Dummett and Federico Fernandez plus misses from Gerard Deulofeu and Isaac Success added to their frustration in a lacklustre performance at home.
Deulofeu also wasted two decent set piece chances when he hit free kicks straight into the Newcastle wall.
Doucoure’s goal on 82 minutes meant they shared the spoils – but the same player missed a gilt-edged opportunity to win all three points for his team in added time when he headed wide from four yards out.
