BRITAIN will bask in unseasonably warm weather today with temperatures hitting as high as 14C – but heavy snowfall from the Beast From The East could be looming.
The final weekend of 2018 will see swathes of sunshine for central and northern parts of the UK helping thermometers hit double figures.

It will be cloudier and grey throughout Saturday in the South East, South West, and Wales.
But the cloud cover is expected to act like a blanket across the rump of Britain – with East Anglia expected to see the mercury hit a Spring-like 14C.
In the North – where early morning rain will quickly clear to present a bright and sunny day – temperatures will still reach a cosy 10-11C, forecasters say.
Describing the North / South split, forecasters at Meteogroup said: “It will be wet and breezy in the morning for northern areas, although it will turn bright in the afternoon, especially in eastern Scotland.
A north-south split will see sunshine in parts – with cloud in others[/caption]
“Southern areas are expected to be largely grey and overcast with mist and a few spots of rain.
“Brisk winds for many in the morning but gentle afternoon.”
Light showers will finish off the day in the North – while the South is expected to avoid the rain in the evening.
Tonight (Saturday night): It will be cloudy with outbreaks of light rain, mostly in the north, especially after midnight.
A Meteogroup forecast added: “Southern and eastern areas will stay driest for longest, although there will be a lot of cloud with patches of mist and fog developing.”
Only a few light passing showers are expected later today[/caption]
And it is expected to stay dry and calm for many on Sunday and on New Year’s Eve – when thousands will flock to fireworks celebrations.
But the calm picture will not last for long into the 2019.
Forecasters predict a Sudden Stratospheric Warming might cause snow storms and chilling winds to sweep in from the East later next week.
And it could trigger a cold snap like the record-breaker earlier this year.
Recent mild temperatures are set to plummet next week to more familiar wintry weather.

Meanwhile, a sudden warming in the atmosphere over the North Pole could bring dramatic effects to the UK in the coming weeks.
Met Office spokesperson Nicola Maxey told The Sun Online: “Sudden Stratospheric Warming is an event that happens high up in the atmosphere and that is on the way at the moment.
“The effects won’t be felt for at least two weeks so we are looking at mid-to-late January.
“It is a little bit early to say what that impact will be on the UK, but it can lead to events like what was termed the Beast from the East.”
