ONLINE trolls have attacked Amir Khan for “disobeying Allah” after the Bolton-born boxer posted a Christmas-themed Instagram post.
The former world champion, 32, who is a devout Muslim, posted a snap of himself wearing a Santa hat along with the caption: “What you all wanting for Christmas?”
While some fans joked about wanting to see the Bolton-born fighter take on British rival Kell Brook – others blasted him for celebrating the Christian holiday.
One user Wasiafg90 wrote: “I think you don’t know nothing about Islam.”
Another said: “It’s very unfortunate to see that you are waiting for it.
“Don’t you know your are disobeying Allah SWT.”
Despite the fact that many British Muslims celebrate Christmas, another Instagram user claimed the holiday is “haram” – which means something which is forbidden under Islamic law.
The vast majority of Khan’s 1.3million followers defended him.
One wrote: “Guys he’s doing this because not all his fans are Muslim.”
Another said: “Wearing a Christmas hat isn’t a sin.”
A third added: “You don’t know Asians who live in Britain. Everyone to a point dabbles in the festivity of the nation they are born in.”
A user named Pappii9 pointed out that boxing legend Muhammad Ali – who was also a Muslim – advertised non-halal meat during his career.
They wrote: “Just want to say Muhammad Ali did an advert for Birds Eye beef burgers that was not halal.
“Didn’t mean he actually believed in that ad he did it for money. Didn’t make him any less a Muslim and we are not here to judge others as Muslims that’s our following.”
This is not the first time Khan has come under fire for posting festive-themed posts.
Last year the welterweight boxer received death threats for posting a picture of a Christmas tree he had put up for his daughter.
In November, his wife Faryal Makhdoom hit back at trolls who accused her of being a “bad Muslim” for posing on the red carpet days after completing a holy pilgrimage to Mecca.
The 27-year-old shared a picture of herself and Khan in glamorous outfits at the OK! Beauty Awards on Instagram.
One critic posted: “One day in Allah’s house wearing nikab and the next with her legs out.”
Faryal hit back blasting the social media users who “judged” her.
