SAJID Javid has come under fire for not deploying enough boats to stop migrants crossing the Channel.

The Home Secretary was slammed by senior Conservatives after he revealed a deal with France which did not include extra high-speed patrol boats, the Times reports.

Yesterday six Iranian migrants reached Kent in a dinghy, as Mr Javid reached an “enhanced” agreement with the French.

It agreed to raise awareness of the dangers of crossing the Channel and to increase patrols and surveillance of smuggling gangs.

But the lack of extra cutter boats to patrol the waters has been jumped on by critics.

Presently only two are available, with only one deployed, supported by two smaller patrol boats.

Conservative MP Tim Loughton said: “Frankly he needs to show a much greater sense of urgency.

“These journeys are being made now and clearly we do not have enough assets in the Channel to head them off.

“If the navy can provide that additional resource now, it needs to be brought in.”

Charlie Elphicke, MP for Dover, said: “I am calling for our Border Force cutters cruising the Mediterranean to return to UK waters and form a new Dover patrol to take back control of our borders immediately.”

Mr Javid hit back in his Daily Telegraph column “no easy answers”.

He wrote: “The reasons behind the increased crossings are complicated and in many cases outside of our control.”Britain’s “ageing” Border Force cutters sailed by the Kent migrants, seemingly having failed to halt their progress.

It came as under-fire Home Secretary Sajid Javid, flew home early from a luxury safari holiday to take personal charge of the Channel migrants crisis — and announced a joint new package alongside France’s Interior Minister.

An action plan will be unveiled later this week after he and Christophe Castaner held an emergency phone call.

Locals have demanded more action to halt the influx fuelled by large numbers of Iranians travelling from Serbia, where they had visa-free access until October.

Around 130 boat migrants have been intercepted making the perilous 21-mile crossing to Britain in the past week, with police describing it as like “trying to cross the M25 at rush hour on foot.”

The latest were given a medical assessment and handed over to immigration officials for asylum claims to be processed.
