MANCHESTER UNITED threw off the shackles to romp their way to victory in their first match post-Jose Mourinho.
Club legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could not have dreamed for a better start as interim boss against his old side.
And he did not have to wait long to begin the celebrations courtesy of Marcus Rashford.
Recalled Frenchman Paul Pogba ran over a free-kick to leave it to the young striker to curl home from 25 yards.
Pogba then grabbed an assist himself, teeing up Ander Herrera to rifle home, courtesy of a deflection, on the half hour mark.
Cardiff threatened to get back into it when Victor Camarasa made it 2-1 from the penalty spot.
Any hopes of a comeback were quickly ended when moments later Anthony Martial made it three.
Jesse Lingard grabbed a fourth from the spot midway through the second half as the Reds threatened to run away with it.

But United and Lingard had to wait until the final seconds for a fifth as Lingard danced around the ‘keeper to roll home.
It was the first time United have struck five in a Premier League match since Sir Alex Ferguson’s final game in charge and they have not moved to within eight points of the top four.
