A police officer has issued an emotional plea to the public after she attended a scene where a three-year-old girl died.

PC Jade Hunter, who is an officer for West Yorkshire Police, recalled the moment she was at a call where a little girl was suffering from cardiac arrest.

She watched on as paramedics tried to save the little girl - but ultimately their efforts fell short.

Writing about the horrific ordeal, PC Hunter urged the public not to judge police officers who were taking a break or sitting down on the job.

PC Hunter said the stresses of the job can put an emotional strain on officers just like everyone else and that sometimes a break is needed before moving onto the next job.

She wrote on Twitter: 'Next time you pull up at a local coffee shop or fast food restaurant and see a couple of police cars, please don't post on social media that we're "having a tea break" or "skiving".

'You never know what kind of situation we have just attended and dealt with. Sometimes we need 5 or 10 minutes to gather our thoughts.

'The public's safety is our number one priority and it's often that after jobs like these we are right back out there dealing with the next situation that comes in.

'However, we're only human too. Please don't penalise us for having feelings.'

Her emotive post received an overwhelming amount of support from her followers.

Chris Cook replied: A job like that warrants a break before you continue. No-one should ever question that. I hope you’re feeling ok.'

Hannah Louise Shelby said: 'Totally agree, sometimes public are not understanding enough of the fact police are human too, I often see police queuing for food but doesn't bother me. You deserve a break.'

Another added: 'Hope your ok,it must have been a terrible shock for you to be there and witness such a tragedy.'

However not everyone was so sympathetic and said it was to be expected in the line of work which PC Hunter signed up for.

Karl Stephens wrote: 'I don't understand the need for flag waving & playing to the gallery, have a little decorum and dont use this horrific heart wrenching moment to highlight the issue of when officers take a break in the community.'

Hayden says: “I don’t have a model’s body, but I’m not one of those crazy girls who thinks that they’re fat. I’m OK with what I have.”

Nicollette says: “I don’t like diets – I see it, I eat it! I believe in eating healthily with lots of protein, vegetables and carbs to give you energy.”
