PARENTS have blasted a pantomime for its “inappropriate sexual jokes” and use of “miserable looking” live ponies.

Hull New Theatre’s Cinderella production even pushed some mums to leave the performance halfway through on Thursday.

One parent recalls a man being “stripped right down to his underpants in front of a theatre full of pupils”.

Another heard a child asking “what ‘up the duff’ meant” during the “disturbing” show.

Catherine Heckford-Dickinson, 43, went with a friend, but she couldn’t take it after the “disturbing ponies” came on stage.

She said: “We’ve been to the pantomime in other years but it didn’t feel the same this year. I was really surprised to see the ponies and found it a bit disturbing. It really spoilt it.

“They looked miserable and were hanging their heads. There are all these lights and noise and an environment like that is totally alien to them.

“I don’t care if they say they are used to it, or they are bred for performance because they shouldn’t be.

“I know someone who works at the theatre and they said the ponies should be treated well but they shouldn’t be there anyway. In panto, they used to wear the classic panto horse costume, they should have used that.

Others took to social media to post complaints about this year’s panto, Cinderella, which stars former Eastenders actress Anita Dobson.

Another woman posted on Facebook that the use of the ponies was “unnecessary”.

She said: “How shameful that you allowed live animals in the Cinderella production on your stage. So unnecessary and the ponies were either sedated or so fed up of being in such an alien environment. It’s saddening to see animals hanging their heads for whatever reason

“How many ‘performances’ are they expected to do? Another 10 days of performances for these poor creatures. Truly disgusting.”

The pantomime is being shown for another eight days at Hull New Theatre and stars actors from stage and screen, including Bernie Clifton, Neil McDermott, Jocasta Almgill and Hannah Nicholas.

Hayden says: “I don’t have a model’s body, but I’m not one of those crazy girls who thinks that they’re fat. I’m OK with what I have.”

Nicollette says: “I don’t like diets – I see it, I eat it! I believe in eating healthily with lots of protein, vegetables and carbs to give you energy.”
