New photo Our Sun Savers Facebook users share their favourite festive hacks — plus win £15,000 on the Sun Savers Raffle

CHRISTMAS is nearly here and we’re gearing up for a full-on day of food, family and presents.

But if you feel like it has crept up on you this year, you can still pull it back with some time and money-saving tricks. We asked Sun Savers Facebook users for their favourite festive hacks…

Christmas is fast approaching and it’s not too late to save on your Xmas lunch[/caption]

  • Dave Matthews says: “Ask any family or close friends to chip in and possibly cook some of the food as well.”

If you don’t want to ask people to chip in cash, see if they are able to bring a dish each. This will significantly reduce your bill and your time spent slaving over the oven on Christmas Day. If you prep a stuffed turkey crown from Morrisons for just £14 and ask others to bring the sides and puds, you could cut your costs by over £50, based on the average above.
    SAVING: £50

  • Nicola Trussell says: “Buy frozen veg from Iceland . . . its Christmas range is the best, it all cooks at same time. I’ve been doing an Iceland Xmas dinner for years . . . gorgeous.”

Iceland is doing a Christmas dinner for six people for £22, in previous years it was reported that the average Christmas meal cost £64.25 for six people.
    SAVING: at least £42.25

  • Carol Howell says: “You can prep stuffing, pigs in blankets, Yorkshire pud mix, parboil potatoes, and freeze.”

If you’re really short on time, Sainsbury’s has a great deal on Aunt Bessie’s Duck Fat Roast Potatoes for just £1.37, down from £2.75.
    SAVING: £1.38

  • Rachael Cleaks says: “Try an informal buffet-style Christmas Day. Have the pigs in blankets, meat cold and sliced, sauces, salad, sausage rolls, a tray of roasted vegetables, cheese, clementines in a bowl and mince pies. Guests help themselves and there’s minimal cooking.”

Prepping a buffet will save you a lot of time and by buying trays of frozen party food you can cut down on costs compared to making a sit-down meal. Asda is selling bundles of Christmas trimmings for £4 — rather than £5.

Hayden Panettiere
Size: 8
Age: 18
Height: 5ft 1in
Weight: 8st

To achieve her kick-ass figure, Hayden – who plays cheerleader Claire Bennet in Heroes – follows the ‘quartering’ rule. She eats only a quarter of the food on her plate, then waits 20 minutes before deciding whether she needs to eat again.

Hayden says: “I don’t have a model’s body, but I’m not one of those crazy girls who thinks that they’re fat. I’m OK with what I have.”

Nicollette says: “I don’t like diets – I see it, I eat it! I believe in eating healthily with lots of protein, vegetables and carbs to give you energy.”

SATC star Kim swears by gym sessions with Russian kettle bells (traditional cast-iron weights) and the South Beach Diet to give her the body she wants. To avoid overeating, Kim has a radical diet trick – squirting lemon juice on her leftovers – so she won’t carry on picking.

Kim says: “I am no super-thin Hollywood actress. I am built for men who like women to look like women.”
