Zinedine Zidane is among the favourites to become the next permanent Manchester United manager after Jose Mourinho was axed on Tuesday morning.
The Frenchman is currently out of work following his successful spell at Real Madrid that yielded three Champions League titles and is currently 2/1 to replace Mourinho on a long-term basis.
Mourinho was finally relieved of his duties after an abysmal start of the season with the club now expected to name a caretaker boss until the end of the campaign. Ex- United defender Laurent Blanc is said to be among the leading candidates to be named as the caretaker.

United hope to announce a caretaker within 48 hours. Current assistant Michael Carrick is not expected to take the role but sources say the appointment will be a man with strong links to the club.
Blanc is believed to have a great chance of getting the post until the end of the season. The Frenchman, who made 75 appearances in two seasons at Old Trafford, is a big friend of Sir Alex Ferguson and is available immediately.
The club will then turn their attention to finding Mourinho’s long-term replacement.
An extensive search will be carried out, with officials hoping for a long-term appointment who can ensure the club challenge for a Premier League title they have not won since 2013.

Carrick remains the favourite to be named permanent manager and is currently at 11/10 with bookmakers.
Nicky Butt, the head of United's academy and former midfielder, is at 8/1 with Blanc carrying odds of 9/1 to succeed Mourinho permanently.
Former Chelsea caretaker boss Guus Hiddink is also in the running. He is at 10/1 alongside club icon Ryan Giggs, who took over after David Moyes was sacked in 2014.
Antonio Conte, who left Chelsea this summer, is at 14/1 and then there are a host of managers priced at 16/1 including Brendan Rodgers of Celtic, former Monaco boss Leonardo Jardim, Bournemouth Eddie Howe, Lucien Favre of Borussia Dortmund and Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri.
