Tens of thousands of people began Scotland's countdown to 2019 with a Hogmanay torchlit procession in Edinburgh last night.
Pipers, drummers and dance bands joined Edinburgh locals and visitors from 49 countries in a colourful display down the Royal Mile into Holyrood Park.
The torch bearers formed the outline of Scotland with their flaming batons as 40,000 people gathered in the historic city centre.
The procession for Hogmanay, the Scots word for the last day of the year, marks the start of three days of traditional celebrations in the Scottish capital.

Edinburgh Samba Band, Glencorse Pipe Band and Hawick Scout Pipe Band were among the accompaniments to the lively procession on Sunday night.
Members of 'Celtic Fire Theatre' company PyroCeltica also performed in full Highland Warrior apparel, with flaming claymores and fire staffs, at Edinburgh Castle.
Regions of Scotland chose symbols on banners to be carried on the march, with Edinburgh choosing Greyfriars Bobby guarding Arthur's Seat while Lanarkshire selected a coal cart filled with Irn Bru.
The festivities will include a concert in the city's famous Princes Street Gardens, headlined by Scottish rockers Franz Ferdinand.
Celebrations on New Years's Eve will also include a ceilidh dance under the imposing castle before revellers sing Auld Lang Syne to mark the start of 2019.
On January 1, the third day of Hogmanay celebrations, brave dippers in fancy dress will brave the cold waters of the Firth of Forth in the annual Loony Dook.
Visit Scotland's Paul Bush said: 'Edinburgh Hogmanay's incredible Torchlight Procession has once again kick-started three-days of celebrations for those seeking to bring in the New Year in style.
'Famous the world over for spectacular images of both visitors and locals illuminating the city streets, the event continues to reinforce Scotland as the perfect stage for events.'
