CHRISTMAS is the season of giving, which also means the season of wrapping.
Some people avoid it entirely and opt for gift bags, or get their presents gift-wrapped.
But whether you’re giving or receiving this year, you’ve probably had to grapple with sellotape.
A staple of most presents, even at birthdays, it seems one woman’s mother-in-law was less than impressed.
A wife took to Mumsnet to share her in-law’s bizarre criticism, captioning her post “mother-in-law just told me sellotape is common.”
She wrote: “She just told me off for wrapping presents with sticky tape and that I should be using just ribbon to hold the paper in place.
“I was a bit flummoxed as to how to respond. “
She questioned if others thought the same, and needless to say most Mumsnetter’s thought her mother-in-law was barmy.
One person responded: “The Queen uses sellotape so there.”
And this person said: “I would not give her a present at all frankly!”
A third commented: “Just when you think you’ve heard all the bonkers opinions.
“Sellotape is a practical solution to the gift wrapping conundrum.”
Another suggested: “I think I’d be tempted to use a whole roll of tape and make it hard to open.
“Then make sure I’d asked for something really tricky to wrap.”
This person wrote: “”Common”? I take it you’re aristocracy or middle upper class then. Of course, it’s “common”, it’s everywhere, lots of people use it, and it’s fantastic.”
Others suggested wrapping hers in “tin foil”, or using an “elastic band.”
