At the close of 2018, Owen Williams from Cardiff, U.K., got all kinds of news. He’d found out his neighbor, Ken Watson, had passed away at the age of 87. And that he’d left behind a lot for Owen’s daughter.
Now, Owen found himself in a weird spot. As incredible of a gesture as it was, he had no idea what was in the packages, so he went to Twitter asking if he should open the packages in advance.
The answer was an overwhelming “No,” and after that response, he decided to tell the world a bit about Ken Watson as he knew him: A kind neighbor.
Owen couldn’t stop talking about Ken though, and found out some incredible things about his neighbor. Namely, that he’d made headlines two years ago.
Now, I can give Owen a bit of a pass for this next part:
He did open one present early, and inside was a children’s book.
As the story gathered press, the author of the children’s book “Christmas Eve at the Mellops,” Tomi Ungerer, reached out to Owen with an offer.
Some people out there have told Owen to turn this story into a children’s book of his own, but regardless of what he does, his daughter has received an incredible gift from a man she hardly knew. It’s kindness and generosity at its core, so here’s to Ken Watson, the greatest neighbor of 2018. May he rest in peace.
