We got a teaser trailer for Disney’s Aladdin remake back in October, and all anyone has been curious about is what the hell the Genie looks like. This first reveal in the new issue of Entertainment Weekly hasn’t gone over super well to say the least, and it’s not hard to see why.

So yeah. The reaction is all over the place, but for everyone asking what the hell is going on with this design, Will Smith decided to do his best to assuage people’s fears. Kind of.

Between this and confirmation from the EW article, it seems like digital effects for the blue genie people want aren’t finished enough to show them yet. Which is definitely weird considering the movie is coming out in May. And I definitely should have mentioned this earlier, but did you know Guy Ritchie (director of Snatch, Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels, and Sherlock Holmes) is somehow directing this?

I don’t know about this one, but… This seems dicey to me. A new trailer can’t be far behind, so (hopefully) we’ll see the true genie then.
