Gone are the days when hiding green peas under mashed potato fooled your kids into eating a wider variety of vegetables.
But one creative mother may have come up with an alternative, although you'll need to be quite the artist to pull it off.
Mum-of-two Laleh Mohmedi uses colourful fruit and veg to conjure up a whole host of characters for her children Jacob, six, and 15-month-old Charlie Rose.

'In May 2015 I turned my son Jacob's spelt pancakes into a lion for a bit of fun - he absolutely loved it and it progressed from there,' Laleh explained
The 35-year-old, from Melbourne, Australia, has created everything from a fruit smoothie Donald Duck to a Kermit the Frog made entirely from grapes and says her culinary masterpieces really do work.

'It was purely for fun. Luckily Jacob has always been a great eater but making food art allowed us to get creative in the kitchen and talk about the benefits of the ingredients that we use.

Although admitting the first lion she perfected was 'so bad', she has since mastered some very high quality masterpieces
'He just loves it. Seeing his expression when he sees the creation is what makes it worth it.'

'It doesn't take long - it is all in the preparation - for example I make all the cold elements like the features and clothing, whilst the hot elements like mash potato and pasta sauce are cooking,' she said
Laleh doesn't go out of her way to purchase abstract material, but rather uses things the family already have in the fridge and pantry

'We like to buy fresh produce so our fridge is quite colourful so it doesn't cost us anymore than a normal meal,' she admitted.
'I receive a lot of messages on Instagram and Facebook asking for tips because it really does work.
'I mean, which child wouldn't like to eat a minion?'
