BALLON D’OR host DJ Martin Solveig has apologised after asking Ada Hegerberg to “twerk”.
The Lyon and Norway striker, 23, won the inaugural Women’s Ballon d’Or last night.
But it was overshadowed by Solveig’s ill-advised comment – an appalled Hegerberg said “no” to the request and made a hurried exit off stage.
In a video on Twitter, the French DJ, 42, apologised wholeheartedly for the incident and insisted there was no intent to cause any offence.
He said: “Guys I’m a little bit amazed by what I’m reading on the internet. I, of course, didn’t want to offend anyone.
“This comes from a distortion of my English level which is obviously not enough because I didn’t mean to offend anyone and I didn’t know that this could be seen as such an offence especially if you consider the sequence in total when we ended up dancing to Frank Sinatra.
“This was a joke, probably a bad one, and I want to apologise for the one I may have offended. Sorry about that.”
Solveig also tweeted a photo of the pair shaking hands backstage afterwards and added: “I explained to @AdaStolsmo the buzz and she told me she understood it was a joke.
“Nevertheless my apologies to anyone who may have been offended. Most importantly congratulations to Ada.”
Hegerberg was clearly shocked at the time but was clearly more than happy to try and forget about it when she posted on Instagram this morning, simply captioning a photo with the trophy: “What a night.”

She also told the BBC she “didn’t consider it sexual harassment”.
Even though the footballing sensation denied harassment, fans across the world were furious with the DJ.
But England defender and Hegerberg’s Lyon team-mate Lucy Bronze said it was “just a joke”.
She added: “The DJ asked each person that won what their dance was but she can twerk, she was lying. It was more of a joke of making her dance.”
