STORM Diana is set to smash UK with 68mph winds and violent rain storms causing floods.
Downpours will start in Scotland and across northern England from today as Brits are warned of power cuts, traffic chaos and mobile phone outages.
The Met Office has warned of “danger to life” as a 2,000-mile-wide DOUBLE CYCLONE Storm Diana is set to whip the UK.
Meteorologist Alex Deakin said: “It’s a bit warmer than last week, but it’s much wetter and at times it could be very windy, the potential for those winds especially to do some damage and cause some problems, especially through Wednesday and Thursday.
“We have warnings in force heavy rain at times too not helping the situation.”
Today will start calm, but rain will last the southwest by midday with the weather worsening throughout the week.
Storm Diana, named by the IMPA Portuguese weather service, is currently threatening the Azores and will be the fourth major storm system to hit the UK this autumn.
A huge region of low pressure from two Atlantic storms is set to drag a huge mound of water into Britain’s coast, set to sweep over sea defences.
The outlook is bleak with rain and gales to pummel Britain tomorrow – but gets worse as the week goes on.
Met Office spokesperson Richard Miles told The Sun Online: “We are going to get some wet and windy weather for the whole country coming from the west.

“The exposed west, northwest areas will be where we are likely to see the strongest winds.”
Coastal areas will also be battered by the strong winds, with the weather warning adding there was a “small chance that injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts”.
Mr Miles added: “People will need to be careful on coastal roads, which will be affected by spray and large waves. People will need to exercise care around those areas.”
The arrival of Diana following a wet Tuesday could see rain totals of between two and three inches in some western parts over the two days.
It has already been a cold start of the week, with temperatures struggling to reach 6C in London and barely 2C across Glasgow and Fort William.
Temperatures are expected to reach a maximum of 10C in the south west, with highs of 4C to 7C expected elsewhere, with fog patches a risk as the mercury dips again overnight.
And the Environment Agency has released flood alerts for parts of South East England, particularly from Putney Bridge to Teddington Weir.
While forecasters are expecting a windy peak to the week, Friday will also be affected by strong winds.
FIVE DAY OUTLOOK: What to expect this week
Monday: A dry start to the week for many with spells of sunshine, especially in the west. Scattered and occasionally heavy showers will continue to feed into eastern parts of Scotland, England and Northern Ireland. Relatively chilly, but mainly light winds.
Tuesday: Wet and windy in the west, with coastal gales, although brighter later. Murky in central and eastern parts, perhaps briefly brightening up before cloud, rain and strong winds arrives later.
Wednesday through to Friday: Unsettled throughout Wednesday and Thursday with gales likely and spells of heavy rain, although very mild. Turning colder and showery on Friday with some brightness but remaining windy.
Into December: Further unsettled and milder weather is possible through the first week of December, however it looks like things should start to turn drier and colder towards the following weekend.
Mr Miles added: “The winds straddle Wednesday and Thursday, but it’s going to be pretty blustery all week.
“We’ll be keeping an eye on what happens towards the end of the week.”
Arctic air will bring a seasonal chill, risking significant snowfall over the festive period, according to forecasters.
Former BBC and Met Office forecaster John Hammond said: “Computer forecasts show a revved-up jet stream sweeping away high pressure.
“But there is an increasing chance of much colder air being pushed towards us from the north and east as December progresses.
Meanwhile, bookies have slashed the odds on a White Christmas blowing in.

“The chance of significant snowfall increases,” he said. “A White Christmas may be more likely this year than most.”
Bookmakers Coral cut white Christmas odds to 7/4 in Aberdeen and 2/1 in Glasgow and Edinburgh.
A spokesman said: “Bookies are in a shiver about the festive freeze.”
