CHERYL Tweedy has denied being a “diva” and insisted SHE turned down the Chicago stage role – despite claims she lost out to Caroline Flack.
The Sun revealed ex-Girls Aloud singer Cheryl got through to the final stages to play Roxie Hart in the West End musical, but was pipped to the post by the Love Island presenter.
It’s thought her diva demands didn’t go down well with producers in New York.
But now her representatives have claimed: “We can confirm that Cheryl was approached with an offer to take the role but turned it down.”
Cheryl’s pop career took a hit last week after her “disastrous” performance on X Factor.
Her single has now plunged to number 48 in the charts, despite defending her appearance on the show.

Cheryl licked her hand and danced sexily on stage, which prompted outraged viewers to complain to Ofcom.
Almost 100 viewers said it was too sexy for TV.
She has also been accused of ripping off Eighties legend Paul Young’s hit Love Of The Common People for her latest single Love Made Me Do It.

Meanwhile Caroline will now take on the iconic stage role,
which was made famous by Renee Zellweger in the Oscar-winning 2002 film.
It will be Caroline’s first West End leading role, and she will start preparing once she has filmed the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special, for which she is currently in rehearsals.
Former X Factor winner Alexandra Burke is currently in the role of Roxie, supported by Blue member Duncan James as Billy Flynn.
