New photo BBC stars don their best spy suits as the race to be the new James Bond hots up

With a multi-million pound salary, not to mention a place in the hearts of generations of filmgoers, the race to become the new 007 is heating up.

And despite actor Richard Madden’s very Bond-esque shoot in GQ, featured in yesterday’s Daily Mail, the Scot is not the only suave star still in the running – and they are all leading men from BBC primetime dramas.

Madden, 32, who wowed fans in Bodyguard, is the new favourite to take over from Daniel Craig after Bond 25 is released in 2020.

But Idris Elba, 46, is also thought to be among producers’ favourites to join the franchise after his brooding turn as detective Luther in the dark BBC drama. 

He would be the first black actor to tackle the role, and is rumoured to have been in the running for several years.

Modest Madden has told GQ that Bond rumours always circulate when any actor features in a hit drama – insisting that he was merely ‘the next one’.
