MEGHAN Markle may have been used to the red carpet as a former actress, but the former actress is said to be struggling with the ‘spotlight’ of Royalty according to an insider.
The new mother, who welcomed son Archie in May with husband Prince Harry, has been fighting to keep privacy for her son – and those in-the-know believe it’s taking its toll.
An insider told People magazine: “Meghan has struggled with the intensity of the spotlight. Although she is a former actress, this is on a different level.”
The ‘Suits’ star has faced scrutiny since joining the Royal family last year – and the insider believes it intensified following the 37-year-old’s pregnancy and birth.
Recently, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex held a christening ceremony for their son at the Queen’s private chapel in Windsor Castle, but kept it private and only released two photos.
The parents also refused to disclose the names of Archie‘s chosen godparents, a move thought to be a bid for further privacy for the two-month-old from mum Meghan.
One Royal insider explained that Meghan has relied on her sister-in-law Kate Middleton for support and advice through the tough times.
“It’s an isolated experience,” they explained. “[It can be] lonely at times and you do feel quite isolated But many mothers are going through exactly what [Meghan] is going through.”
Robert Lacey, a Royal author, explained that Meghan may have turned to the Duchess of Cambridge after developing a bond following Archie’s birth.
And since Kate, 37, is already a mother of three children, Prince George, five, Princess Charlotte, three, and Prince Louis, one, she is ideal for the job.
“Coming from different backgrounds I think they have more the makings of a team than people imagined,” explained Robert. “And they have a common interest as partners to men of the monarchy.”
Royal commentator Victoria Arbiter, whose father Dickie was a spokesman for the Queen, agrees she too isn’t surprised that Meghan and Kate have connected through motherhood.
“Babies are a great leveller,” she explained. “The minute you’re bonding over your stories and sleepless nights, suddenly all the stuff that mattered before doesn’t matter anymore.”
Meghan revealed her struggle with being in the public eye on the red carpet for the premier of Disney’s ‘The lion King’ – telling Pharrell Williams the public didn’t make it ‘easy’.

“I’m so happy for your union,” said the American entertainer. “Love is amazing. But what it means in today’s climate, I just wanted to tell you it’s so significant for many of us. We cheer you guys on.”
The Duchess of Sussex made a quick response, saying: “They don’t make it easy,” thought to be in reference to the public scrutiny she has faced.
It comes after a wave of criticisms of the new mum, including receiving backlash for how she was holding Archie at a polo event, and a request to avoid attention while attending Wimbledon.
