THE dad who allegedly accidentally left his twin babies to die in a hot car wept as he appeared in court.
Juan Rodriguez, an Iraq war veteran, was charged yesterday morning with killing his one-year-old twins Luna and Phoenix after leaving them for eight hours on the backseat as temperatures rose to 30C in New York.

Witnesses said he screamed out “I killed my babies” after returning to the car from work to see their bodies.
The boy and girl, called Luna and Phoenix, were found dead inside his Honda Accord which had been left in the Bronx.
The New York Post reports they had an internal temperature of 42C when a coroner examined them in the car.
Rodriguez is said to have told cops at the scene: “I assumed I dropped them off at day care before I went to work.
“I blanked out. My babies are dead! I killed my babies!”
The devastated dad was still sobbing as he was arraigned on Friday before making bail and being released to his weeping family.
A disabled social worker, he hugged his crying wife, Marissa, the twins’ mum as he left court.
Family friend Temple Barros, 41, who lives with the family, told The Post Rodriguez routinely took the twins to a day care in the mornings.

He said: “[He’s] an amazing guy. He’s always been there for his kids. Always.
“This is just a horrible situation. The family isn’t doing so well.”
The tragic babies were said to be foaming at the mouth when they were discovered in the vehicle.
Rodriguez has reportedly denied two counts of manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and endangering the welfare of a child after the deaths of the twins.
The 39-year-old is alleged to have parked his Honda Accord in The Bronx around 8am before work.
After finishing his shift at the Veterans Association hospital he is said to have come back at 4pm, before realising that the children were on the backseat.
After a bystander is said to have called 911, he was arrested and charges brought against him.
‘IT’S SHOCKING’
The temperature in the city on Friday was around 30C, with temperatures inside the car thought to be far hotter.
Crowds of stunned people gathered to watch police at the cordoned off scene.
The family had just celebrated the twins’ first birthday with a big party, a neighbour said.
Devastated neighbours built a makeshift memorial of candles across the street from where the father pulled over the car and fell apart.
The dad has two older children from a previous marriage who also live at home.
A neighbour added: “It’s shocking. I know there are two little angels in heaven tonight.
“I hope they get a beautiful burial.”
