"Many Photos" - Dad’s horror as son ‘finds Stanley knife inside pack of Cadbury chocolate eggs’

A TEENAGER was baffled when he discovered a Stanley knife hidden inside a sealed bag of Cadbury chocolate eggs, his dad claims.

Michael Thomas, 44, said his 14-year-old son presented him with the blade and asked “what’s this?” after allegedly finding it in the 99p bag.

Ethan’s mum, Amanda Thomas, had bought the treat for him during a shopping trip in Aldi back in January, but when Ethan opened the bag at home he spotted the knife.

Appalled by the mysterious object, Michael, from Salisbury, has been trying to get answers from the owner of Cadbury, Mondelez International who allegedly pointed the finger elsewhere.

He said the firm blamed a co-packer but has given no explanation of how the knife made its way into the bag.

Speaking to Mirror Online, he said: “Co-packers or not, this was under the Cadbury brand.

“They use high-tech equipment. How would a knife get into a bag of chocolate without getting flagged up?”

“They were treating it like I had found a hair in my chocolate.”

But he says that he felt Mondelez didn’t take his complaint seriously and was even asked to send the blade in the post but he refused.

The dad-of-one thought that at first, it was a prank or that it had been placed in the bag for malicious reasons when Ethan showed him the cutting tool.

Amanda, 43, began to panic that it was related to the Novichok nerve agent attack in Salisbury last year.

She began to worry that like the discarded perfume bottle that killed Dawn Sturgess.

Michael, an accountant who works in healthcare, said: “My wife spent the night thinking what if it’s contaminated?”

He took the bag back to Aldi and a staff member said that his claims would be investigated.

The company offered to send the family a hamper of chocolate as a gesture of goodwill but the dad refused and told them to make a donation to a charity of his choice after they consulted the co-packer.

He’s asked the company to donate £10,000 – the sum of Cadbury’s recent white egg competition – to help pay for new medical equipment in Salisbury’s hospital.

A Mondelez International spokesperson said: “ We’re grateful to Mr. Thomas raising this issue with us, and apologise for his experience.

“The safety and quality of our products is extremely important to us and we launched a thorough investigation with our third party packaging supplier, as soon as we were made aware.

“We have taken the necessary steps to ensure this does not happen again and have offered the customer a gesture of goodwill.”
