Where is Cliveden House hotel?
Cliveden House is a National Trust-owned estate in Buckinghamshire, on the border with Berkshire.
The mansion-like hotel is just 2 miles away from the town of Maidenhead.
It sits on banks 40 metres above the River Thames, and its grounds slope down towards the river.
What’s its history?
Cliveden House has been home to many royalties.
Duke of Buckingham resided there after the house was built in 1666.
After, 1st Earl of Orkney moved into the house in 1896.
The Earl employed the architect Thomas Archer to add two new “wings” to the house, connected by curved corridors.
After he passed away in 1737, he passed the mansion to his daughter the Countesses of Orkney, who instantly leased it to Frederick, Prince of Wales.
In the 19th Century, the estate was purchased by Sir George Warrender, 4th Baronet.
Warrender died in 1849 and the house was sold to the Sutherland family, headed by the second Duke.
The last resident of the estate was the 1st Duke of Westminster, who lived in Cliveden House from 1868 until 1893.
In 1893, the estate was purchased by an American millionaire, William Waldorf Astor.
But the estate became a hotel in 1984, which then later changed its name to Cliveden House.
Does it serve Afternoon Tea?
The five-star hotel offers two main Afternoon Tea options, both served in The Great Hall.
The options include the “Cliveden Traditional” and the “Cliveden ’66 Traditional” afternoon teas.
These are very different in price, with the Clivden Traditional being £37 per person, the Cliveden ’66 Traditional Afternoon Tea being £60 per person.
The hotel recommends guests to book at least three weeks in advance, as their Afternoon Tea is very popular.

What does the hotel plan on doing?
The luxury mansion-like hotel has opened its doors for a new documentary, which shows staff preparing for a very special arrival.
The new Channel 4 documentary shows works at £1,500-a-night Cliveden House work tirelessly to welcome the unnamed VIP guest, with maintenance men being called in to transform one luxury suite in the five-star Berkshire hotel.
Speaking about the “honour” of being chosen by Meghan, who tied the knot a short half-hour car journey away at Windsor Castle, butler Michael told the cameras: “We were all very excited when we found who it was.
“We felt like we’d pulled the plum on that one. It was an exciting honour. It’s nice to be part of such of a big, and worldwide event.”
General manager Kevin, who greeted the pair, added: “It was just the most beautiful wedding and the most beautiful day.
“For Cliveden to have just a very small part of that, albeit the night before, was just amazing.”
Cliveden House is a Grade I listed hotel which boasts 376 acres of National Trust grounds, a five-star spa, helipad and Jacuzzi, offers champagne boat trips and is decked out with antique furniture.
