New photo Supermarkets have already sold out of Christmas delivery slots around the country

CHRISTMAS shoppers are having issues ordering their groceries online as supermarkets have run out of delivery slots already.

Almost three weeks before the big day, some rural areas in the UK have run out of slots completely, while bigger cities such as London have sold out in some locations as well.

The Sun has tried to book delivery slots in both rural locations and London this week, but several supermarket websites stated that were no slots available in the three days to Christmas.

Morrisons, for example, has sold out in several places including certain addresses in both London and more rural cities such as Norfolk.

In the same location, Sainsbury is also unable to make any deliveries on December 23 as well as during specific times on December 22 and 23.

Meanwhile, Asda has also almost run out of delivery slots for some addresses in Ipswich, but there are still plenty of options in a number of London areas.

Earlier this week The Sun also wrote about Tesco’s delivery slots, which sold out very quickly due to high demand.

This led to anger after customers with a monthly “delivery saver” subscription were able to book prime slots for the day before December 25 a week in advance of other shoppers.

Shoppers said they stayed up until midnight on Monday and Tuesday to book Christmas delivery slots for December 23 and 24 respectively, which is when they became available to all customers for the first time.

But many complained that slots in their areas were already sold out as soon as they went live at one minute past midnight.

The lack of slots has led to supermarket shoppers venting their frustration on Twitter.

One Morrisons shopper says she’s tried to book a slot since the supermarket released the delivery slots, but hasn’t been able to book any.

Chrissy Portnall wrote on Twitter: “@Morrisons is there no more Christmas Delivery slots.

“I have been trying since you announce it but showing no availability.”

Meanwhile, other users also complained about Tesco.

Twitter user Paul Boon said: “Stayed up last night and tried to book a slot for 23rd for @Tesco delivery and from 23:50 nothing available kept trying til 12.30am and still no delivery slots just kept saying unavailable tried till 1am still nothing.

“Tried in morning nothing why wasn’t they available?”

The Sun has asked the supermarkets for comments – here’s what they told us.

A spokesperson for Morrisons said: “Christmas is a very busy time of year for our online delivery teams.

“Delivery slots are still available, however there is limited availability in a small number of areas.”

Meanwhile, Sainsbury’s told The Sun: “The last date for deliveries arriving is the 23rd.

“That is of course subject to availability, so to avoid disappointment we encourage customers to book delivery slots in advance.”

How to save money on your Christmas shop

CHRISTMAS is an expensive time of the year, but there are countless ways to ensure you're not overspending on your groceries.

  • Stock up in advance: Many supermarkets roll out tasty offers in the run-up to Christmas, meaning you can save some money by not buying everything at the last-minute

  • Don’t buy if you can bake: If you have flour, sugar and spices in your cupboard at home, try baking your own treats. You can do it well ahead of time and freeze them in batches

  • Get veg for pennies: Forget frozen spuds and sprouts – wait to the last minute to snag bargain-basement fresh food instead

  • Use comparison sites: Check mysupermarket.co.uk to shop around and see which retailer has the best prices

  • Make it a family affair. If friends and relatives are coming over, get them to bring something each to spread the cost of your meal

A Tesco spokesperson said: “We’re ready to help our customers get everything they need for Christmas and know our home delivery slots are particularly popular at this time of year.

“We have been in touch with all of our online customers to remind them to book early to avoid disappointment and are working hard to release more slots in the run up to the big day.”

A spokesperson for Asda also noted that the supermarket has a limited amount of slots in some areas, but that there are still slots available.

But the fact that Christmas slots run out of early is nothing new – last year last-minute Christmas shoppers faced chaos as supermarkets ran out of delivery slots.

Meanwhile, a mum has shared a very sneaky tip for guaranteeing free delivery on her online shopping, but not everyone thinks it’s ethical.

As of last month, Londoners can get Aldi delivered to their door, but there’s a catch.
