DIVERSE faces of humanity capture the gritty reality of every day life around the world in this striking gallery of pictures.
From Irish travellers to a drifter with his dog in Los Angeles and cousins growing up in Argentina, the photographs show a range of unique characters.

They are the latest entries for Portrait of Humanity, an international award that invites photographers of all levels to submit images expressing individuality, community and unity.
To take part, you must submit your pictures before January 8, 2019.
The 50 winning images will be exhibited in galleries and museums around the world from September 2019 to January 2020.

Jean-Baptise Pellerin has been photographing people on the streets for more than three decades. This photograph shows three mischievous girls in Arles, France, and featured in his Backtothestreet project, which invites people to ‘look up from their phones and at the people all araound them’. Pellerin posts his photographs on city walls – so that they ‘make their way back to the streets’[/caption]

Photographer Toby A. Cox has made it her mission to confront rising Islamophobia by documenting life in Muslim-majority countries. This picture, showing two children waving through a car window, has been described as ‘a moment of joy on a journey in Kyrgyzstan’[/caption]
This stunning photo was taken by Alessandra Sanguinetti. It shows two cousins, Guille and Belinda, whose families lived on farms in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Sanguinetti started documenting them as they ‘matured into adults’, her aim being to ‘focus on their desires, dreams and active imaginations’[/caption]
Two pilgrims make their 33-mile journey around sacred Mount Kailash, Tibet. They were accompanied by photographer Samuel Zuder who travelled with them to the plateau known as the ‘Jewel of the Snow’[/caption]
Tiniteqilaaq, a remote village in Greenland. It’s 2000, an old hunter is dead and most of the settlement is attending the funeral. The body is kept in the coffin until summer, when the ground becomes soft and it’s possible to bury the corpse. The photograph was taken by Jacob Aue Sobol[/caption]

To achieve her kick-ass figure, Hayden – who plays cheerleader Claire Bennet in Heroes – follows the ‘quartering’ rule. She eats only a quarter of the food on her plate, then waits 20 minutes before deciding whether she needs to eat again.
Hayden says: “I don’t have a model’s body, but I’m not one of those crazy girls who thinks that they’re fat. I’m OK with what I have.”
Nicollette says: “I don’t like diets – I see it, I eat it! I believe in eating healthily with lots of protein, vegetables and carbs to give you energy.”

Weight: 9st 4lb
SATC star Kim swears by gym sessions with Russian kettle bells (traditional cast-iron weights) and the South Beach Diet to give her the body she wants. To avoid overeating, Kim has a radical diet trick – squirting lemon juice on her leftovers – so she won’t carry on picking.
Kim says: “I am no super-thin Hollywood actress. I am built for men who like women to look like women.”
