"Many Photos" - Chelsea legend Makelele reveals he threatened to ‘put Ronaldinho in hospital’ during infamous Barcelona Champions League game

CLAUDE MAKELELE has sensationally revealed he threatened to put Ronaldinho in hospital during a match for Chelsea against Barcelona.

The former French midfielder came up against the Brazilian trickster in the last-16 of the Champions League in both the 2004/05 and 2005/06 seasons.

Chelsea won the first meeting where they would progress into the semi-finals before losing against Liverpool.

While Barca gained revenge the following year – with Ronaldinho’s second leg strike proving to be the winner – before going on to beat Arsenal in the final.

Speaking of the 2005 Ballon d’Or winner, the 46-year-old recalled playing against Ronaldinho during one of their battles.

During an interview with former team-mate William Gallas for RMC Sports, he said: “Kid, I would rather you come at me and dribble past me properly.

“But with all your PlayStation tricks, I’m going to put you in hospital!

“What did he do? He gave me the ball and apologised.”

The two-time Premier League winner also compared the ex-Paris Saint-Germain forward to his old Real Madrid team-mate Zinedine Zidane.

He added: “Zidane was an artist, but every move he made was to add something to the attack or to advance.

“He took a beating. In that context, you can’t say anything.

“With Ronaldinho, it’s the same thing, in this context, you can’t say anything. But at some point, he started to go too far.”

Makelele has been the boss of Belgian side Eupen since November 2017 following his short stint as Swansea’s assistant manager.
