A YOUNG woman died in a mystery tragedy on a “romantic getaway” to a lakeside retreat to celebrate the New Year.
Hollie Connis, 23, was found collapsed after her partner set off a fire alarm to get help at the luxury Glan y Gro Lakeside Suites in Bala, Wales.
Police said the cause of the young woman’s death is currently unknown — and a young man is helping police with their enquiries.
Owner Rob Moore was woken by a fire alarm in the early hours of the morning in the retreat and gave her CPR in vain.
He said: “They came here for a romantic getaway, my daughter checked them in and my wife saw them during the early hours of New Year’s Day and said they were laughing and joking and in high spirits.”
Not long after 5am, Mr Moore was woken by the fire alarm and tried to help Hollie.
Mr Moore added: “I tried CPR on her until the ambulance arrived, but it’s all a blur as the fire alarm was going off and her partner was in a complete state. It was a horrible situation.”
Hollie travelled 50 miles from her home on the Wirral, Merseyside, to the Bala retreat.
Hollie’s nan led the tributes to her “gorgeous granddaughter” on Facebook.
Mary Connis wrote: “My gorgeous Granddaughter passed away today. People who know me know for a long time my gorgeous granddaughter lived with me, what can I say Hollie Pops my heart is broken in 2.
“No words to say how all our family are heartbroken. Hope you are at peace my lovely granddaughter.”
Hollie died after an ambulance arrived.
Mr Moore said: “It’s an absolute tragedy what has happened.
“The police officers have been exceptional and very kind to us all. We are all distraught.
“My wife Ann has spoken to the young man’s mother, and she is obviously in an emotional state.”

Police officers sealed off the area and forensics teams carried out investigations for several hours yesterday morning.
Temporary superintendent Neil Harrison, from North Wales Police, said: “Our thoughts remain with the woman’s family and friends at this difficult time.
“A young man is currently helping us with our enquiries. However, a forensic postmortem examination is scheduled to take place tomorrow to determine the precise cause of death, and the coroner has been informed.”
