The Duke of Cambridge left bystanders nervously laughing this afternoon, after he joked that he'd forgotten his wife's birthday.
Prince William, visiting the London Air Ambulance service at Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, looked surprised when two youngsters handed him a home-made card to celebrate the Duchess of Cambridge's 37th birthday.
He told the boy and girl: 'Well done you for remembering!' before saying: 'I did remember this morning, so I was okay'.

The Duke of Cambridge, attending the 30th anniversary celebrations of London Air Ambulance, looked surprised as he received a birthday card for Kate, who turns 37 today, from the daughter of Yair Shaahar, who received care from the Air Ambulance after being hit by a car in Enfield
When the Duke realised it was a birthday card, he joked 'Well done you for remembering!' before adding 'I did remember this morning, so I was okay'
After the card was opened out, Prince William praised the siblings for their neat handwriting
The colourful hand-made missive was one of many gifts received by the Duke of Cambridge during his visit to the Royal London Hospital for LondonÕs Air Ambulance 30th anniversary celebrations
The prince, who worked for the East Anglian Air Ambulance until July 2017, also praised the boy and girl, brother and sister, for their neat handwriting, saying: 'Your writing is very good as well'.
The siblings were the children of Yair Shaahar, who received care from the London Air Ambulance after he was knocked off his bicycle in Enfield on 7th April 2016.
To mark the LAA's anniversary today, the service’s chief pilot, Neil Jeffers, 47, flew one of their MD 902 Explorer helicopters to Kensington Palace to collect the second in line to the throne.
William, 36, then sat in the captain’s seat and flew the aircraft back to the hospital, the first time, the prince said, he has flown since June.

Still got it! William flew for the first time since June as he returned the Air Ambulance back to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel for the anniversary event
Mr Jeffers said afterwards: ‘Yes he sat in the captain’s seat. He has flown this type of helicopter around four times before but it is not one he used regularly. I was very impressed, though.
'He flies well. It’s really like riding bike, you never forget. He flew up from Kensington Palace to the hospital.
The Duchess of Cambridge is expected to mark the occasion with husband the Duke of Cambridge and their three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis (seen in their annual Christmas card last year)
'The journey would normally take us four minutes but lasted twenty five as we saw some of the sights and talked about the unique issues working in London. As a pilot it is a very built up city with specific air traffic control issues.'
Across London, Kate is understood to be spending her 37th birthday at home in Kensington Palace, where she and William will later celebrate with their three children, George, Charlotte and Louis.
Over the coming year, the Cambridges' middle child Charlotte is set to turn four in May and then start school in September, when she will most likely join George at private school Thomas's Battersea.
George will be celebrating his sixth birthday in July, while baby Louis, turns one on April 23.
