EMMERDALE star Jeff Hordley has hinted that Joe Tate could turn up alive and surprise his character Cain Dingle in the Dales.
The embattled character currently believes he killed his daughter Debbie’s fiancé Joe after punching him in October.
He was furious after thinking Joe jilted his daughter on their wedding day and hit him as Joe headed back to the village for Debbie, played by Charley Webb, after being sent away by Graham.
But as Graham stuffed Joe’s dead body in the boot of his car, viewers saw the hunky faux-millionaire’s fingers twitching, meaning that Graham would have to have finished him off himself.
Now Jeff has has added fuel to the fire by teasing that he could turn up at any point after Cain is forced to identify Joe’s body – only to find that it’s not him.
He told Metro: “I hope Joe walks back through the door one day! Both Charley and I have talked about the storyline, we love working together.
“Yes there is a rift but hoping they still come back together at some point, and if the truth of the situation is that he didn’t kill Joe maybe it’s a road back for father and daughter to reunite.
“I’d love that, but that’s the nature of stories like this. It will put us in new territory as father and daughter.”
The embattled character is in a bad place after he confessed to daughter Debbie that her fiancé Joe is dead – and that he’s the one who killed him.
Viewers will see Debbie’s reaction next week to learning her dad murdered the love of her life, leaving Cain feeling even more guilty than before.
He realises with horror that his confession has changed things between them for good as Moira – Natalie J Robb – despairs over the situation.
Later Debbie heads to Home Farm to confront Joe’s former right-hand man Graham Foster and is stunned when Cain arrives and reveals that Graham had a hand in Joe’s death too.

Cain is feeling out of control and finally snaps, losing it and angrily shoving Moira up against a wall.
