The Tory MP branded a 'Nazi' by furious Yellow Vest Brexiteers says she wears shoes that enable a quick getaway.

Anna Soubry - who campaigned to remain in the European Union and wants a second referendum - has dubbed her trusty footwear 'Brexit Bovver Boots' and said: 'They are absolutely glorious.'

The Broxtowe MP said even her 85-year-old mother has been threatened, with a letter that read: 'We know where you are, look out for yourself.'

She told The Times that she positions herself far from the tracks of the London Underground for fear 'that someone could push me on the line'.

'When I am in London and take the Tube I always keep my back to the wall,' she said.

It comes as police were accused of 'wishy washy' policing outside the Houses of Parliament.

Pro-Brexit protesters have been mirroring French demonstrations in Paris by donning yellow safety vests.   

On Saturday left-wing activists are set to wear the jackets as they march through the capital to demand a general election. 

Whitehall authorities have pledged extra security for politicians who feel like they need it.

After Labour MP Jo Cox was murdered by a far-right terrorist in 2016, extra security measures including panic buttons and locks were made available in the offices and homes of politicians. 

Brexiteer Tory MP David Davies has taken to wearing a body camera to record any abuse that may be directed at him.

Labour's Harriet Harman and Conservative Ken Clarke are calling for an inquiry due to fears that intimidation and threats are stopping MPs going about their work. 

And Parliament's joint committee on human rights will hear evidence from politicians on both sides of the Commons on the threat to MPs.  

The Metropolitan Police have pledged to enhance their presence in Westminster. A parliamentary spokesman said security in the Commons is taken 'extremely seriously'.

What are bovver boots?

MP Anna Soubry has described her hefty boots as her 'Brexit Bovver Boots.'

Originally the boots, sturdy in design and often with steel toe-caps, were worn by workmen. 

But they became associated with skinheads and football hooligans who would use the boots in altercations, causing serious damage.

They were co-opted by punk rockers in the 1970s and became a symbol of rebellion.

They are still immensely popular and fashionable, with the most famous designer of the boot being Dr. Martens. 

'For security reasons, we cannot discuss our arrangements at parliament or MPs’ security arrangements away from the estate,' he added. 

It comes after Prime Minister Theresa May demanded Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell to say sorry about comments that spoke of 'lynching' ex-work and pensions secretary Esther McVey.

Mr McDonnell insisted he was not approving of such an action when he quoted a member of the public four years ago.

Mrs May has stated that politicians and journalists 'should be able to go about their work without harassment and intimidation'. 

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has also condemned abuse and called for a 'safe space for political debate'.
