New photo 'Domestic-related' murder probe is launched after Lincolnshire fire

A 'domestic-related' murder investigation was launched today after three people were found dead following a house fire on New Year's Day. 

Neighbours watched in horror after the blaze broke out at the £350,000 detached home in the Lincolnshire village of Kirton, near Boston, at about 3am yesterday. 

Shocking photographs of the burnt-out house, which had two cars and a boat on the drive, showed how the roof and much of the top floor were destroyed.

Two further people remain in hospital with non-life threatening injuries after the fire.

David Danby, chairman of Kirton Parish Council, who lives nearby and witnessed the fire, said: 'What was amazing was the ferocity. We were woken by our Westie.

'My partner said come and look at this. We looked closely and we could see that it was across the road.

'The speed at which the flames went from one side of the building to the other on the top floor was amazing. By 3.45am, the top half had gone completely.

'I was speaking to one of the investigators. He said that the police were there first and the fire tender got there within seven minutes of the 999 call and by the time they got there, there was very little they could do. 

'I think they were surprised at how quickly it moved across the house. The house is completely gutted. 

'Our sympathies and condolences go to the family and we just hope that the two in hospital make a full recovery.' 

Mr Danby said that police had flown a drone over the property as part of their investigations.

He added: 'The drone was going all the way round the house. High, low and in front of the house. The whole house was cordoned off.'

Yesterday, Lincolnshire Police said one person had died and two more had been taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

But this afternoon the force said three people had died in the tragedy as detectives launched a murder investigation.

Superintendent Di Coulson said today: 'This is a tragic crime and our thoughts are with the family and friends of those involved.

'We are in contact with the families and will ensure that this is a thorough investigation as we try to understand what happened.' 

One tribute had been left outside the property and a second mourner also left flowers at the scene. 

The investigation into the blaze is being led by officers from the regional East Midlands specialist operations unit, alongside local officers.

A Lincolnshire Police spokesman said today: 'Sadly we are now able to confirm that three people have been found dead within the property.

'It will take some time to formally identify them but at this time we believe we know who they are and their families have been notified and family liaison officers are in contact with them.

'We can confirm that we are treating this as a domestic-related murder investigation, but we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this.

'As the investigation continues we are appealing to anyone who has any information about the occupants of the address, or anyone who was driving in or near Peartree Road, Kirton from 3pm New Year's Eve up to 3am on New Year's morning and may have dash cam footage, or may have seen anything which might assist us.'
